Excellent question! I am so glad you found my blog so I can answer that for you.
Educational Background
I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. My bachelor’s degree is in Early Childhood Education and my master’s degree is in School Leadership, with my administrator license. I have worked as a teacher and now a coach in Chattanooga for 9 years at a handful of schools with varied student populations. You can learn more about my background on my About page.
My many names
Around 2012 when I began teaching, I went by the handle “1stGradeLove” on Instagram, Teachers Pay Teachers, etc. Working in first grade was my dream but later I took the opportunity to teach 3rd grade, which meant I needed a name change. After a lot of thought, I went with something less grade specific and landed on “MartinTeachingCo” in 2017. My previous blog still bears that name 🙂
Changing the name again recently is mainly motivated by my progress on my new website (the one you’re on now!). I thought that Martinteachingco.com was too clunky and honestly right now, its just me so why not drop the “Co” right?
The Summary
In a nutshell, I am an early childhood educator passionate about math, student voice and creating positive change. I love laughing and learning with my students and try to find ways to keep them engaged in learning. I am always busy working on one of the many ideas zipping around my brain but I also make a point to prioritize self care and gratitude.
If you’ve been with me for a while, thank you so much for sticking around. I truly appreciate you. If we are new friends, welcome & thanks for stopping by! I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
